Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Heatproof cup

Ingredients

  • β…” Cups white chocolate Don't use chocolate chips as they don't melt well due to the stabilisers inside- either break up a white Chocolate bar or use white chocolate fevres.
  • β…” Cups full-fat milk I like dairy milk but nutritionally it's not the best choice (just look at the calories below!)- for the best milk to use for matcha lattes, click here.
  • 2-3 teaspoons matcha powder See the photo above for why fresh matcha powder is important. (And don't forget to store it in the fridge in an airtight container that blocks out the light.)
  • ΒΌ Cup hot water
  • Sweetener optional. I suggest using a liquid sweetener, such as honey, so that you can stir it in after you've assembled the matcha chocolate drink. This is because white chocolate is already quite sweet so you may not want any extra sugar at all.
  • Marshmallows &/or whipped cream Optional topping

Instructions

  • Over a low fire, melt the white chocolate in the milk in a saucepan. Stir every 30 seconds or so. Don't let the mixture come to a boil.
  • Whilst the chocolate is melting, whisk the matcha powder into the hot water.
  • Once the chocolate is melted, pour it into a heatproof glass, then pour the matcha mixture into the white chocolate.
  • Taste and, if necessary, add sweetener Top with whipped cream or marshmallows for a more decadent drink.
  • Sprinkle some matcha powder on top for your own version of latte art.
