Golden Chai Latte is a cozy turmeric drink recipe It has the warming spices of Masala Chai Tea (yes I know Chai means Tea!) and the earth flavor of turmeric, making golden milk chai latte delicious both iced and hot- perfect for fall, winter or summer.

Ingredients
You will need a few simple ingredients for this warming fall latte if making from scratch. I also show a quick hack below using a Masala Chai tea bag:
- Spices: you will need a cinnamon stick, ground black pepper, fresh ginger and cloves (If you use 1 Masala Chai tea bag, you can skip the spices as the tea bag will contain them.)
- If using regular cow's milk, ginger powder would work better, as fresh ginger may curdle the milk.
- If you don't have enough fresh ginger, grate instead of slicing to get a stronger flavor- I slice because grated ginger is more difficult to get out of the drink- you need to sieve it, instead of just picking up the pieces.
- There is a lot of flexibility around the spices used in Masala Chai Tea. Feel free to add other spices that you like, such as cardamom. If you're looking for a Chai Latte without caffeine, click here.
- Tea: Black tea is traditional, but you there is also a version of Chai with Green Tea. Either 1 tea bag or 1 Tablespoon of tea leaves per mug work.
- ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder: I use Turmeric powder not sliced fresh turmeric as the latter takes a lot longer to turn the milk such a vivid gold color. (The latter is also more troublesome as you can't just slice it- you will need to pound and strain.) Click here for more Turmeric recipes.
- 1 Cup of Milk: I like whole milk but if using fresh ginger, it can make the milk curdle. You can switch to a plant-based milk of your choice if vegan, such as almond milk, soy milk, oat milk etc.
- To make the milk more frothy, heat it before whisking. You'll be surprised by how much easier it is to froth heated milk!
- 1 Tablespoon of coconut milk: I do not recommend using 100% coconut milk because the turmeric drink then tastes like a sweet curry sauce! (I tried.) Instead, adding 1 Tablespoon of coconut milk gives the drink a nicer texture and flavor.
- 1- 1½ Tablespoon honey or to taste. Maple syrup and sugar work too.
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract: It sounds weird but when I tasted the drink without, it didn't taste as good. Vanilla also makes the drink sweeter so reduces the sugar/ honey you need to add.
Quick hack: if you've already made my Chai Syrup Concentrate, you can steep the Masala Chai teabag, stir in the milk, then sweeten to taste with the chai syrup.
