This Creamy Nutella Coffee Latte, inspired by Starbucks Nutella Latte, requires only 3 simple ingredients. Sweet, nutty and delicious, it's the perfect easy Nutella recipe- perfect for those looking for homemade cozy fall lattes or hot winter nonalcoholic drinks.

    Ingredients

A bottle of nutella, a cup of coffe and milk next to each other.

You only need 3 simple ingredients found in most grocery stores:

    • nutella: if you don't refrigerate your nutella spread, it can sometimes separate into an oily layer on top. Make sure to stir well before adding to your coffee so that your Nutella Coffee isn't greasy! You can substitute with other-brand hazelnut chocolate spreads too. (Use leftovers to make 3-ingredient Nutella cookies for a real hazelnut chocolate feast!)
    • espresso: I make espresso with my CASABREWS set: if you don't have 1, substitute with strong coffee- to make it, stir 1 Tablespoon of instant coffee powder into ½ Cup of water.
    • milk: I prefer the creaminess of whole milk. If you're on a plant-based diet, feel free to use a vegan milk of your choice, such as oat milk, almond milk or hazelnut milk. (You can also use half-and-half or cream mixed with an equal amount of water, if out of milk.)

Note: For more creamy latte flavors, such as Dirty Chai Tea Latte, click here. If you love nutty coffees, try this rich and creamy peanut butter mocha recipe. And chocoholics should check out this Starbucks Chocolate Mocha copycat!

    Variations & Substitutes

    • For a more chocolatey Nutella Latte: use more of the chocolate hazelnut spread or add a few chocolate fevres into your hot drink!
    • To DIY an authentic Starbucks Hazelnut Latte, use Starbucks Reserve Espresso with Starbucks Hazelnut Syrup, Chocolate Syrup, Caramel sauce and steamed 2% milk. (I use Nutella and regular coffee, as those are more accessible ingredients- Starbucks can be pricey! For caramel, I like this vegan coconut caramel.)
    • For iced Nutella Coffee: use frozen coffee cubes. This helps to ensure that your drink won't become watery after the ice melts.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Strong coffee brewed using instant coffee powder.
    1. If using instant coffee: dissolve 1 Tablespoon in ½ Cup of hot water.

Alternatively, you can use 1 shot of espresso.

Stirring a tablespoon of nutella hazelnut spread into coffee.

    2. Stir the nutella, then scoop 2 tablespoons into the hot coffee/ espresso.

Stir well to dissolve- you'll have some chocolate spread left on the spoon. Feel free to lick it off!

Note: Make sure not to contaminate your Nutella jar with coffee or saliva or it'll go bad.

Using a whisk to froth steamed milk.

    3. Gently heat milk on the stove till steaming. Once the milk is steaming, switch off the fire and whisk till frothy (about 30 seconds.)

Alternatively, here are other ways to froth milk without a frother.

Note: don't let the milk boil or it may split!

Pouring frothed steamed milk into Nutella Coffee.

    4. Pour the frothed milk into the hazelnut coffee latte!

Tip: Enjoy with some vegan Hojicha mochi muffins on the side!

    Expert Tips

Tip #1: For an extra decadent drink, spread some nutella mixed with brown sugar and cocoa powder around the rim of your cup then spray whipped cream on top. (Maybe drizzle some chocolate sauce and throw in a few marshmallows too?) The contrast between the hot chocolate coffee and the cold cream is simply scrumptious!

Tip #2: You can skip the whisking and make Nutella Latte in 1-step by blending all the ingredients for 30 seconds to make a smooth and frothy drink (but note that your foam will be brown not white.)

Tip #3: If you want to make cold brew coffee with Nutella, I recommend using a Nutella syrup, which will dissolve in the cold coffee more easily.

Hi I'm Zhen also known as GGG! I couldn't boil water till I was 18! However, I love creating community and nurturing people, so when I lived abroad (in St. Andrews then London) for 11 years, I started hosting regular parties for friends, and that's how I started cooking and helping out in professional kitchens. (Couldn't cook before that!) I even organised a supper club for charity (which strangers came to!) Learning to cook late, I make sure my recipes go into enough detail for those new to Asian cuisine or who love a test kitchen approach to cooking!
