    Why Make This

    1. This easy Nutella Coffee Latte is delicious: Inspired by Starbucks Hazelnut Latte, it is just-nice-sweet and creamily delicious with nutty chocolate undertones- perfect for cold fall and winter days!
    2. Only 3 simple ingredients: that are easily found in almost all grocery stores!
    3. Simple and cheap to make: made in a matter of minutes and much friendlier on the wallet than all those trips to cafes and coffee houses!

    Ingredients

A bottle of nutella, a cup of coffe and milk next to each other.

You only need 3 simple ingredients found in most grocery stores:

    • nutella: if you don't refrigerate your nutella spread, it can sometimes separate into an oily layer on top. Make sure to stir well before adding to your coffee so that your Nutella Coffee isn't greasy! You can substitute with other-brand hazelnut chocolate spreads too.
    • espresso: substitute with strong coffee- you can stir 1 Tablespoon of instant coffee powder into ½ Cup of water.
    • milk: I prefer the creaminess of whole milk. If you're on a plant-based diet, feel free to use a vegan milk of your choice, such as oat milk, almond milk or hazelnut milk! (You can also use half-and-half or cream mixed with an equal amount of water, if out of milk.)

    Variations & Substitutes

    • For a more chocolatey Nutella Latte: use more of the chocolate hazelnut spread or add a few chocolate fevres into your hot drink!
    • To DIY an authentic Starbucks Hazelnut Latte, use Starbucks Reserve Espresso with Starbucks Hazelnut Syrup, Chocolate Syrup, Caramel sauce and steamed 2% milk. (I use Nutella and regular coffee, as those are more accessible ingredients- Starbucks can be pricey! For caramel, I like this vegan coconut caramel.)
    • For iced Nutella Coffee: use frozen coffee cubes. This helps to ensure that your drink won't become watery after the ice melts.

    Step-by-Step Instructions

Strong coffee brewed using instant coffee powder.
    1. If using instant coffee: dissolve 1 Tablespoon in ½ Cup of hot water.

Alternatively, you can use 1 shot of espresso.

Stirring a tablespoon of nutella hazelnut spread into coffee.

    2. Stir the nutella, then scoop 2 tablespoons into the hot coffee/ espresso.

Stir well to dissolve- you'll have some chocolate spread left on the spoon. Feel free to lick it off!

Note: Make sure not to contaminate your Nutella jar with coffee or saliva or it'll go bad.

Using a whisk to froth steamed milk.

    3. Gently heat milk on the stove till steaming. Once the milk is steaming, switch off the fire and whisk till frothy (about 30 seconds.)

Note: don't let the milk boil or it may split!

Pouring frothed steamed milk into Nutella Coffee.

    4. Pour the frothed milk into the hazelnut coffee latte!

Tip: Enjoy with some vegan Hojicha mochi muffins on the side!

    Expert Tips

Tip #1: For an extra decadent drink, spread some nutella mixed with brown sugar and cocoa powder around the rim of your cup then spray whipped cream on top. (Maybe drizzle some chocolate sauce and throw in a few marshmallows too?) The contrast between the hot chocolate coffee and the cold cream is simply scrumptious!

Tip #2: You can skip the whisking and make Nutella Latte in 1-step by blending all the ingredients for 30 seconds to make a smooth and frothy drink (but note that your foam will be brown not white.)

Tip #3: If you want to make cold brew coffee with Nutella, I recommend using a Nutella syrup, which will dissolve in the cold coffee more easily.

    Recipe FAQs

Does Starbucks have a Nutella drink?

Yes, it's on the "Secret Menu" (by which we mean customer requests and not a real secret menu!) It's made with Caffe Misto, chocolate syrup, hazelnut syrup, and caramel sauce!

Hi I'm Zhen also known as GGG! I couldn't boil water till I was 18 but after living abroad (in St. Andrews then London) for 11 years and having to cook for myself, I now love cooking for friends and family. Learning to cook late, I make sure my recipes go into enough detail for those new to Asian cuisine or who love a test kitchen approach to cooking!
