This easy, authentic Japanese gyoza dipping sauce recipe (餃子のタレ) only needs 3 ingredients & 1 minute to make! It's sweet & spicy, and can also be drizzled on chicken noodle soup. Whether it's prawn/ shrimp or pork dumplings, this is the best sauce for them! (Chili Oil Optional.)

🥘 Ingredients
Unlike Chinese potsticker sauce, you only need 3 simple ingredients:
- Japanese soy sauce: Kikkoman is easy to find in most grocery stores now
- white rice vinegar
- chili oil: I use my homemade chili oil but you can substitute with shop-bought, or sesame oil and chili flakes/ Japanese Shichimi togarashi/ 7-spice powder
- optional: scallions and sesame seeds for color. You can also add grated ginger and grated garlic for more zest. (I recommend not adding the garlic if you plan to store the sauce.)
Note: there are regional variations for this Asian sauce, but the above is the most common mix. Besides dumplings, I sometimes use this dipping sauce for my Korean and Chinese green onion pancakes too!
The recipe is simple, so I've skipped the Step-by-Step section but if you want it, let me know in the comments below!
🥡 How to Store
Store extra, unused sauce in the fridge in an airtight container for 5 days.
Once you've dipped your dumplings in the sauce- toss!

Japanese gyoza dipping sauce recipe
Equipment
- 1 Bowl & spoon For mixing
Ingredients
- 1 Tablespoon Japanese soy sauce This is the most popular ratio but it's flexible, you can increase/ decrease each ingredient as per your taste.
- 1 Tablespoon white rice vinegar
- Japanese Chili Oil (La-Yu) I recommend starting with ½ teaspoon and increasing if necessary. (You don't want the sauce too oily as gyozas are often fried.)
