    Looking for Chinese rice congee recipes for breakfast, lunch, or dinner? These easy Cantonese rice porridge ideas include savory Asian chicken congee, rice cooker congee, healthy pumpkin rice soup, congee with leftover rice and more! (Include ideas for toppings and side dishes.)

    Making congee is a great way to use up leftover rice (but you can also use uncooked rice.) Congee is all about breaking down the rice grains to make a creamy porridge and, with leftover rice, you're halfway there!

    Garnish the Chinese congee recipes below with some green onions, fresh ginger, Chinese dough fritters, salted egg, and you have a complete meal. For more rice congee toppings and side dishes ideas, click here.

    Tip: if you don't have time to watch the stove, just throw the leftover rice and water or chicken stock in the rice cooker.

    Fish Congee

    For fish porridge, fresh fish is essential or the whole dish will be fishy and ruined. Another tip is to marinate the fish (or seafood) in ginger juice and shaoxing wine to remove any odours.
